Interface> Types of Elements

Light elements are the building blocks for the effects in Knoll Light Factory Photo. They are modeled after camera lens ‘primitives', which are the 19 different elements that occur when photographing lights and bright objects. Most element pages give a description of that element's real world origin.

TIP: The best way to really understand each element is to experiment with its settings. Create a black layer in your Photoshop file, activate the element by adding from the Elements pop-up, then click around its parameters. You will see the pure light against a black canvas.

Glow Ball

A basic glow with a characteristic red ring that is used in most flares and effects. Read more.

Spike Ball

A set of random lines emanating from the center of a ball. Read more.

Star Filter

A star shape that has thin rays of light emanating from a central circular area. Read more.

Sparkle

Generates a number of short linear streaks that are radially distributed around its center point. Read more.

Single Poly

Generates a single polygon shape. Read more.

Poly Spread

Creates a number of randomly positioned polygonal reflections, each with a different brightness and random hue. Read more.

Circle Spread

A number of randomly sized and positioned circles. Read more.

Elliptical Caustic

A four-sided polygon within an ellipse. Read more.

Star Caustic

A diamond-shaped element that is useful for simulating reflections caused by reflective coatings. Read more.

Faded Ring

Generates a 'rainbow ring' effect that fades out toward the edges of the shape. Read more.

Stripe

A tapered line that creates a laser beam sort of look with a small sharp inside color and a softer outer glow. Read more.

Random Fan

Generates an asymmetrical fan of spikes with many radial lines. Read more.

Poly Spike Ball

Generates an asymmetrical fan of spikes with many radial lines. Read more.

Photon Spike Ball

Creates a light burst effect that has a number of rays shooting out from its center, such as the 'Photon torpedo' effect. Read more.

Aperture Reflection

A fanned streak that looks a little like a fireworks fountain. Read more.

Chroma Hoop

Creates a circle of rainbow lines that streak through the center of the light source. Read more.

Chroma Fan

Generates rainbow diffraction patterns that are applied on both sides of the light source. Read more.

Disc

A perfectly circular shape that generates a single circular ramp effect. Read more.

Ellipse

An elliptical shape with a glow that is circular and reflected elements hat are elliptical. Read more.
